Three-Generation House – Japan

[foogallery id=”2052″]

During my early time in Japan I worked for Fujiken, a residential architecture firm. This three-generation house was my first complete design project.

The contrasting mixture of studying centuries-old methods of joinery while at the same time keeping up with the latest software was just one of the paradoxes which made this country so captivating. This modern house contained, among other unique assets, a Buddhist altar built into the ground floor living room, the orientation of which determined much of the layout of the rest of the building.
